EDEN’S STORY:

On Sunday, November 8, 2015 a young cat we are calling “Eden” was rescued with a serious leg injury.  Her distal left femur was protruding from mid-leg (which means her knee joint is actually exposed).  It was very heartbreaking to see a cat in this condition: emaciated, flea-infested and in pain.  The veterinarian estimates her age to be approximately 8 months old and she weighs just over 4 lbs (that is thin).

When you see an injury like hers you can’t help wonder what happened to her.  It is natural to think she got hit by a car because she was found outside alone, dirty and just looking horrible.  Her x-rays show no broken bones.  The lower bones just got pulled from the knee joint. The vet thinks that Eden got her leg stuck so badly somewhere that whatever she did to release her leg is what caused this kind of damage to it.  There are so many dangerous for a cat outside.  It is safer for cats to be inside only where they can live very happily.

We tried to save her leg but, unfortunately, the extent of her injury gave us no alternative but to have it amputated.  UC Davis performed the amputation surgery on Thursday, November 19, 2015 and Franklin Ranch Pet Hospital & Hotel will be doing the follow up veterinarian visits.

Eden is such a sweet and affectionate cat; once she recovers from her surgery she will be a wonderful pet to a loving family.
