Positions

We look to volunteers in striving towards our mission, incorporating them in all aspects of what we do.

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities available at Animal Rescue League:

Foster Parent

Foster parents take rescued animals (in various health conditions) into their homes and provide care for them until they can be adopted into a permanent family. In addition to caring for the animal being fostered, the foster parent will also transport the animal to and from adoption events and offer advice and information to potential homes in order to determine an ideal match for both the animal and the adopting family. Volunteer and Foster coordinators will be available to assist foster parents through advice and coaching throughout the foster experience. All supplies required to maintain proper care of the animal, including medical expenses (authorized by ARL) will be provided. If veterinary treatment is required, the foster coordinator will set up the appointment, but it will be the responsibility of the foster parent to transport the animal to and from the veterinarian.

Foster parents will provide food, water, a clean and comfortable living environment, and lots of love to the animal(s) they are fostering. Additionally, they will provide veterinary care (paid for by ARL), actively participate in adoption efforts and provide any necessary basic obedience skills, as deemed necessary by ARL (training will be available). Time required to foster an animal varies greatly depending on the animal’s age, health and social skills. A minimum of two hours per day (feeding, cleaning, socializing), per animal is required, and fostering can range from two weeks to several months, depending on the age and breed of the animal.

Adoption Day Volunteer

Adoption volunteers assist in the adoption events scheduled by ARL throughout the week, and on weekends at various locations within the community. Adoption volunteers will assist by showing animals available for adoption, sharing information about the animals to potential homes, and screening applicants in order to determine an ideal match for the animal and the adopting family. The time commitment for this position varies depending on the number of adoption events scheduled. Volunteers for this position need to be available on either Saturday or Sunday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Animal Care Volunteer

Animal care volunteers will work at our facility helping to care for rescued animals that are being quarantined, or have not found a foster home. This position involves feeding, grooming and medicating animals under ARL staff supervision, cleaning bedding and living quarters, as well as socializing the animals in order to prepare them for adoption events. Animal care volunteers are needed every day, and we ask that these volunteers commit a minimum of two hours per week.

Adoption Follow-Up Volunteer

ARL is devoted to placing our animals in the appropriate environment for both the animal and the adopting family. To ensure we have a good match, ARL will follow up with adopting families via e-mail, telephone, and home visits during the first 90 days of adoption. We do this so that we can match the temperaments and needs of the animals with the temperaments, life styles and experience of potential owners. Volunteers in this area are responsible for contacting adopting families via the above methods, and therefore must commit a minimum of 3-6 hours per week.

Customer Service Volunteer

Customer service volunteers are responsible for answering telephones and customer inquiries regarding the organization and the animals available for adoption. This position also involves screening potential applicants in order to determine whether or not they may be a suitable home for one of our animals.

General Volunteer

Our general volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of the organizations operations, from data entry and special events, to soliciting and collecting donations and animal transport. Basically, helping out where ever help is needed. General volunteers will deal with both animals and the public, and must have a willingness to help out, with a priority being the rescuing of the animals.

Specialty Volunteers

Animal Rescue League is always in need of volunteers willing to donate their time in a professional capacity, such as web design, fundraising, and grant writing. If you would like to donate your time or services in this capacity, please contact us.

These are just several of the ways you can help out as a volunteer with Animal Rescue League. If you feel that you would like to donate your time, but are not sure where you can fit in, please contact us so that we may discuss the opportunities available within our organization.
